UW'S PORTAL
HOW DOES UW FACILITIES PERSONNEL MANAGE CAMPUS BUILDING INFORMATION AND BETTER MANAGE MAINTENANCE REQUESTS?
MY ROLE
I worked on this project as an Interaction Designer and User Researcher cosponsored by the Department of Construction Management and the HCDE department at the University of Washington.
I was part of a small team alongside HCDE professors UW's Tech Department staff. I led the design and research process for a new concept pitch to UW leadership team top fund a new application for building maintenance using smart building information modeling date (BIM technology).
Facilities Maintenance User Research
I conducted contextual inquiry with a group of maintenance personnel to understand their core day to day work tasks, behaviors, motivations, tech needs and current pain points.
Service Design
I created swim lane diagrams to identify current process bottlenecks and developed a detailed strategy for improvement.
Process Improvement Strategy
I worked along a professor in Construction Management to formulate the overall process improvement strategy and defining both long term and short term goals.
Concept Validation
I coordinated usability studies and presentations with senior leadership at UW to gain alignment on early concepts. I created paper prototypes and tested them with end users to flush out ideas quickly and often.
